‘My Name is Earl’ star Jason Lee’s ex slams Scientology
[HMG] – The church of Scientology has attracted many big names; John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, Lisa Marie Presley, and of course Tom Cruise. But it’s also seen scandal, and the ex-wife of ‘My Name is Earl’ star, Jason Lee knows why.
Carmen Llywelyn, who was married to Jason for six years from 1995, says the abuse she insists was a frequent part of their marriage often scared her — but not as much as the effect of the church on their lives.
Carmen says she joined Scientology when she and Jason [who was already a member] were married, and quit in 2001 after they were divorced.
“Jason’s message was that if I didn’t join, I wasn’t going to be with him, so I joined. But it was like a cult, and I foolishly allowed it to take root in me.”
Carmen goes on to claim that she was “browbeaten” by the church during the divorce, and even “attacked and bullied by members.” The treatment became so bad, Carmen quit LA altogether and returned to her native Atlanta to escape the harassment:
“I have never spoken about Scientology before, but I still have nightmares about these people,” she tells the Enquirer. “I lost my manager and my career. People didn’t return my calls. Scientologists even followed me down the street. I ended up addicted to painkillers, and it took three rehabs to get straight.”
Carmen also shares scathing reviews about the church’s more famous members; For example, she claims Lisa Marie Presley told her she divorced Michael Jackson because “she didn’t want him in the same room as her kids.”
But her real scorn is reserved for Scientology’s poster-child, Tom Cruise, whom Carmen met while he and Nicole Kidman were still married, Here, she describes a very bizarre meeting with the two:
“Jason and I were talking to Tom, and we told him we went to the Church’s center in LA. He said brightly, ‘Oh yeah? Nicole are I are Scientologists too! Right, Nic?’
Carmen then claims Kidman gave her husband a look of absolute scorn, hating being thought of as part of the church. Soon after that they divorced.
Since divorcing Jason in 2001 Carmen has not made a movie. Is it the Scientology factor, or just lack of talent. And if she’s so scared of this ‘cult’ why sell her story to a magazine whose low-rent reputation could cause her even more trouble? Let’s hear your reviews in the comments…

Oh, please, not another anti-Scientology blurb. The TRUTH is Scientology has helped better the lives of MILLIONS of people over 50 years. That’s the REAL truth but since modern journalism is all about scandal, innuendoes, loss, tragedy, conflict, I guess we’ll never get the REAL story of Scientology. Not on this web-page. Guess you’ll just have to go to a Church and find out for yourself. But that’s just too much common sense and rational. Better to be fed some writer’s secondary source musings than to investigate it at it’s source.
GB Randolph – What OT level are you?
GB Randolph, where are Terryeo and James lightfield?, in the RPF?, or are you OSA handlers just changing nicknames all the time to make it seem like you’re not “handling” the internet?

“And if she’s so scared of this ‘cult’ why sell her story to a magazine whose low-rent reputation could cause her even more trouble?”
Hi Austin, most victims of that cult have been too afraid to speak out until recently. The cult could once focus its resources to harassing someone into silence before. In the past two years or so several events have given the cult far too many targets for them to “handle” the way they once could. Before that time, you would have been hearing from the cult’s lawyers for writing an article like this. There is now safety in numbers that wasn’t there before and because of that, the media is no longer afraid.
Here are some more recent examples of former victims speaking out that might give you a bit more insight to answer your question:
