Singer Erykah Badu’s nude video stirs anger over use of JFK assassination site
[HMG] – In a clearly desperate effort to cause scandal and thus rebuild her career, Dallas-born singer Erykah Badu has issued a video in which she strips naked and even fakes being shot — at the site where John F. Kennedy was murdered.
Badu, 39, says she released the video ‘as part of the promotion’ for her new album, which debuts this week. It shows her undressing in Dealey Plaza, then falling to the ground after a gunshot, which was later dubbed in.
Claiming the message of this unthinking stunt is “about liberating yourself from layers of skin or demons,” she then tries to assert that she only picked Dealey Plaza because “it was the most monumental place in Dallas I could think of.”
On November 22nd, 1963, President John F. Kennedy began a motorcade ride through Dallas to attend a Democratic Party meeting. Within five yards of the spot where the singer performed this cheap feat the President was killed by a single shot to the head. He was just 46.
Most sane, sentient beings now regard that location as near-hallowed ground.
But, as was clearly its purpose, this tasteless performance has sparked a lot of debate, both in the blogosphere and on social media sites. But not everyone is falling for Badu’s cover story.
“Badu has lost her mind,” says Janet Shaw, a writer for “BlackPoliticalThought.com’ “This unsightly act occurred near Dealey Plaza. This isn’t how a decent entertainer should behave.”
Most of you don’t remember the JFK story, except from the 1991, Oliver Stone movie. So what are your views on this act?…
