Carey Mulligan set to play Eliza Doolittle Perhaps Alongside Hugh Grant in My Fair Lady remake

Carey Mulligan(HMG) – It looks like Carey Mulligan is set to to play Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady remake.  The up and coming  British Carey Mulligan has gone fron virtual unknown, with supporting roles in Brothers, Public Enemies, Pride and Prejudice and a handful of British television series on her résumé. But now the 24-year-old actress – who sas nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in An Education is on fire and might become the go to young actress for key roles.

Mulligan who has already filmed the sequel, Wall Street 2 with her boyfriend Shia LaBeouf will be taking on playing Eliza Doolittle, the role was made famous by Audrey Hepburn, in an upcoming remake of ‘My Fair Lady’. Originally the role was meant for British starlet Keira Knightley, but she passed on it. British actress Emma Thompson, who has written the script for the new version of the film, disclosed to BBC Five Live, Mulligan’s involvement as she attended the premier of her latest Nanny McPhee film.  She also added that she was keen for actor Hugh Grant to play the role originally performed by Rex Harrison, that of Henry Higgins.

“I love Hugh so I’d love him to do it. He might want to, he might not want to, so we don’t know yet. But hopefully we’ll make it later this year.”
