Avatar director, James Cameron calls out Glenn Beck for debate challenge

[HMG] – With his latest obsession, Avatar, now cruising past $2.6-billion in box office sales, James Cameron has his eye on a new and exciting adventure — He wants to debate Fox News maverick, Glenn Beck.

Speaking at a press preview for the first of several DVD releases of Avatar yesterday, 55-year old Cameron, who is well known as no fan of the host, said he wants to debate Beck on environmental and political issues. Asked for a summary, Jim was direct;

“Glenn Beck is an asshole,” he subtly mused. “I’ve met him. He called me the anti-Christ, and not about ‘Avatar.’  He hadn’t even seen it yet.”

Their undeclared feud started when Glenn dissed James’ 2007 documentary, “The Lost Tomb of Jesus,” which doubts the resurrection. Now James thinks Glenn’s ‘dangerous’ and wants to meet for debate at high noon;

“He’s dangerous because his ideas are poison,” explained James. “I couldn’t believe when he was on CNN. I thought ‘Who is this madman?’ Then of course he went to Fox News, which is where he belongs, I suppose.”

James also feels the film made him the target of right-wing attacks, but he’s not concerned;

“They’re just people ranting away, lost in their little bubbles of reality,” he told THR. “Let’s just call it out. Let’s have a public discussion. That’s what movies are supposed to do.”

One discussion high on Jim’s list would be global warming – he wants to debate those who deny it;

“I want to call them out in the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads. But anybody who is a denier at this point has got their head so deep up their ass, I’m not sure they could hear me.”

And what if they won’t debate, he was asked?

“It’s not going to change my life at all if they don’t talk to me. But they’ve got to live in this world. And so do their children, so they’re going to have to answer for this at some point.”

The first DVD release of “Avatar” is set for April 22, and it’s no coincidence that’s also Earth Day – which you can bet Glenn Beck will notice; His last CNN interview with James began with these words;

“Many people believe James Cameron has tossed his hat into the ring today and is now officially running for anti-Christ.”

And this is the same man now working at the channel that calls itself ‘Fair and Balanced’…
