Bryan Singer dishes on X-Men: First Class
[HMG] – When X-Men director, Bryan Singer announced in December there would be a third film, the internet lit up with speculation on what the plotline might be. Well, now the truth is revealed;
The new film will be titled, “X-Men: First Class,” named in honor of an X-Men series that follows the characters earlier years. And Singer wants to focus on the interaction between Professor Xavier and fan-favorite, Magneto.
“Just doing younger mutants is not enough,” he told MTV. “I love the relationship between Magneto and Xavier, they have opposite points of view but still manage to be friends. They are the ultimate frenemies.”
The 44-year old director also confirmed that Cyclops, Jean Grey and Beast will appear as their younger selves in the film, but when asked whether Hugh Jackman would make an appearance he didn’t respond. However, strong rumors suggest the pair will work together on ‘Wolverine 2.’
And even though filming has not even begun on part three, Singer says the franchise’s producer, Lauren Shuler Donner is also pressing him for news on X-Men part four.
“I wish I could be four people,” Bryan mused. “Then I could make everyone happy.”
Since the original X-Men bowed in July of 2000 several similar movies have cashed in on the craze. So does Singer think he blazed a trail, or was ‘X-Men’ just part of a crowd?
“I don’t know if people followed in our footsteps or we were just the first to godown the same path,” he replied. “But I remember when Marvel Comics was in bankruptcy and I bought stock for a friend as a joke. Now Disney’s paid $4 billion for them. That caught my attention. I just think we made some good movies. And now we’re going to make more.”
There’s no date, script or confirmed cast for the third movie yet, but you can bet the people at Fox will let us all know once it’s time to make money.
Meantime, who do you want in the film?…
