Mother of Corey Haim Reveals Her Son Died of Pulmonary Congestion

(HMG) – While the official results have not been released publicly, the mother of actor Corey Haim  has revealed to Access Hollywood today (Thursday) that the 38-year-old former child star died of pulmonary congestion. Judy Haim, who has spent the last year battling breast cancer, told the newsmagazine she received an early courtesy call from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office today.  She was told that a preliminary autopsy revealed that Corey had an enlarged heart, which caused his lungs to fill with water, leading to his death in the family’s L.A. apartment early Wednesday morning.  Four prescription medications were also found in Haim’s apartment, including Valium, Vicodin and Soma.

While no funeral date has yet been set, Judy also confirmed that her son will ultimately be laid to rest in their native Toronto. Judy is planning to move back to the city, where several members of the family already reside.

His former fiancée, Tiffany Shepis, who was engaged to Haim briefly between 2008 and 2009, has previously said the actor long suffered heart problems.

“Every time he would go to a doctor they’d tell him he had really bad arrhythmia, probably due to clogged arteries,” she says. “They all said he should have it taken care of. But, being from Canada, his insurance was there, so he never went and got it done.”
