Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur Left Out of ‘In Memoriam’ Oscars Tribute Montage
(HMG) – The traditional “in memoriam” segment of the Academy Awards broadcast Sunday left off a couple of noteworthy woman. Farrah Fawcett was left out of the Oscar tribute to those in the film industry who died last year. While the actress — who passed away in June at age 62 after battling cancer — was mostly known for her TV role in Charlie’s Angels. But she did appear in multiple movies, including Man of the House, Dr. T and the Women, The Cannonball Run, Extremities and The Apostle. Golden Girls’ star Bea Arthur, who died last April at the age of 86, was also left out of the tribute.
Her celebrity friends who watched the Oscars from home have wondered why the actress was snubbed. “And where was Farrah Fawcett? She should have been included,” Jane Fonda tweeted. Meanwhile, film critic Roger Ebert tweeted, “No Farrah Fawcett in the memorial tribute? Major fail.”
The segment, which opened with a portrait of Patrick Swayze, was introduced by Demi Moore. Among the stars named in the memorial: Patrick Swayze, Ed McMahon and Brittany Murphy. James Taylor performed “Your Smiling Face” during the montage.
