Charlie Sheen working hard on addictions and marriage – the details

[HMG] – As we mentioned yesterday, Charlie Sheen has checked into rehab – again – but it seems the back-story on this goes deeper than we previously thought.

It seems the 44-year old actor had not only begun drinking again, but cocaine had also regained its hold on his life. Charlie’s friends had urged him to get clean for weeks, but it was his children who finally gave him the motive;

“He loves his children and ultimately that’s what convinced him to get help,” an insider told Radar.

Chuck’s latest problems with drugs came to a head over Christmas; He was arrested on Christmas Eve for allegedly threatening his wife, but it later emerged they’d spent all night drinking and snorting coke. They even did drugs at a friend’s house the night before Brooke herself entered rehab.

“The partying didn’t stop there,” says the source. “He’s used coke and been drinking many, many times since Christmas.”

A family member soon got in his face about this relapse, so Charlie hired a ‘Sober Coach’ to try and recover — Then he got drunk right in front of the coach…and the next day he was in jail.

Before his arrival at rehab on Tuesday, Charlie was busy negotiating a new contract for ‘Two and a Half Men’ and trying to preserve his crumbling marriage.

Insiders say the marriage has been a mutual torment for years, but most addicts have a deep-rooted need for an enabling partner so they can’t bear to end it.

“The only thing they share,” the source explains, “is they both love to party.”

Less kind observers suggest Chuck’s true motive is a desire to avoid the jail time he’ll face if the assault case ever reaches a judge. If Brooke’s still his wife by that time she can’t testify…so, no jail.

Charlie’s supposed to be back in two weeks.  What happens at that time should make a great story…
