Capt. Phil Harris Ordered ‘Catch’ Cameras to Keep Rolling at Hospital Right to His Death
(HMG) – Driven to the bitter end? The sixth season of Discovery’s Deadliest Catch will air as it was taped during king crab season (mid-October to mid-December), including Capt. Phil Harris’ final voyage on the Cornelia Marie. What may come as a surprise is there is footage of his final days, right to his death that could also be aired depending on what the Harris family decides. According to ‘Deadliest Catch’ producer Thom Beers via EW, Capt. Phil Harris told the cameraman to keep rolling while he was on his death bed because “we need a great finish” to the show. The TV crew for ‘Catch’ was there “the entire time” from when Capt. Phil Harris suffered a stroke on the Cornelia Marie to his near-recovery in the hospital before his death on Feb. 9, at age 53. Beers said everyone was surprised when Harris awoke from a medically induced coma on Feb. 2 following emergency surgery. But when he did, he snapped right back into Capt. Phil mode. The Harris family will decide whether any of the footage will make it to air.

I am an on/off again fan. But a fan enough to know Capt. Phil and be touched by his passing. Well, shocked is more like it. My condolences to his family.
