alexander-mcqueen(HMG) – Officially, renowned fashion designer Alexander McQueen hanged himself in his London apartment, a British coroner’s official told an inquest Wednesday.  It was also confirmed by the coroner that McQueen had left left a suicide note nearby.  The contents of the note were not released by the coroner’s office, which is charged with formally identifying the circumstances of the designer’s death.

Coroner’s officer Lynda Martindill said the 40-year-old McQueen had died from asphyxiation and hanging, and there were no suspicious circumstances in the death, and authorities suspect no malice, police detective inspector Paul Armstrong testified.

The real story is that McQueen died of a broken heart.  Days before his body was found Thursday, McQueen had left several messages on the social networking site Twitter revealing his grief at the death of his mother days earlier.  His mother’s death came after McQueen had been jilted by his lover weeks before.  An unpublished interview with the Australian edition of Harper’s Bazaar magazine has been discovered which reveals details of his tortured romantic life, where McQueen talked abut his last relationship, and added that he had got his named tattooed on his arm.

“(He was) a bastard who went back to Australia and I was left looking at his name,” McQueen had said, pointing to the ink on his right arm.

To me McQueen’s death is a reminder how fragile life is.  You can be on top of the world one day, and something unexpected happens and your life is turned totally upside down.  Sadly McQueen and many others are not able to cope and turn to suicide, but you can never understand the depth of one’s grief.
