Carey Mulligan as Eliza Doolittle in ‘My Fair Lady’ Remake?
(HMG) – Just a year ago, British ingénue Carey Mulligan was virtually unknown, with supporting roles in Brothers, Public Enemies, Pride and Prejudice and a handful of British television series on her résumé. But now the 24-year-old actress – who has been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in An Education is on fire and might become the go to young actress for key roles. In Education, as a sheltered but rebellious schoolgirl Jenny, who has an affair with a much older man played by actor Peter Sarsgaard, who says “She’s just so (expletive) good all the time! You get used to her being fantastic,” he says. Sarsgaard should know he also starred alongside Mulligan in Chekhov’s The Seagull on Broadway in 2008.
Mulligan who will be seen next in the sequel, Wall Street 2 might soon take on playing Eliza Doolittle, the role was made famous by Audrey Hepburn, in an upcoming remake of ‘My Fair Lady’. It looks like originally the role was meant for British starlet Keira Knightley, but she passed on the role last month. “The actress has not been formally offered the part yet — and won’t be until Columbia Pictures agrees the film’s budget. Carey and the ‘My Fair Lady’ filmmakers will keep talking until a deal can be struck”, Daily Mail wrote.
