Howard Stern admits American Idol Tempts Him
(HMG) – As we reported previously the word was that producers of American Idol covet Howard Stern, as their top choice to take over from Simon Cowell, who leaves at the end of this seasonĀ ‘Idol’ bosses think he’d be even nastier than Simon, and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants, which makes good TV drama. As America’s highest-paid radio personality, Stern’s own exclusive Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January.
And yesterday Stern told his listeners that the rumor is true: “American Idol” producers are considering him to replace Simon Cowell as a judge on the show. What’s more, he’s tempted to take the job and leave his Sirius XM show behind. “I’ll do that for $100 million.” Stern said. “There’s not a better job on the planet than judging that … karaoke contest,” he said.
Even so many people think Howard might not really be ready to give up his radio gig, and is using Idol as leverage in negotiations. In any case it certainly puts Howard in a sweet, sweet bargaining position.
