Ellen’s Wife, Portia De Rossi writing revealing new book
[HMG] – If you’re a fan of Ellen or American Idol, or both, Ellen’s wife, Portia De Rossi has created a book you might need to browse;
Born ‘Amanda Rogers’ in Victoria, Australia, the now re-branded De Rossi, 37, claims the so-far untitled book will be an ‘emotional tell-all,’ starting in 1997 when her career began, through her battle with anorexia, her sexuality and falling in love with Ellen.
“It will deal with all the secrets that nearly killed me,” De Rossi, told Australian gay-rights magazine, The Advocate. “I abused my body. I had bulimia. I would use (diet drug) fen-phen. I wanted to talk about all that, but I can’t without talking about my sexuality. You can’t really talk about one without the other, it felt like two stories.”
And getting her book deal was so corny and easy, it sounds like a B-movie:
“My mother thought I would be a writer. When I started writing notes to Ellen, she said, ‘You should be a writer.’”
So De Rossi jotted down half-a-dozen anecdotes, her agents shopped those to publishers, she had a deal in three weeks — and no clue what to write.
De Rossi also told the scribes how wonderful life is since she and new ‘American Idol’ judge Ellen got married in 2008.
“Happiness is a choice,” says De Rossi. “Being honest with who you are, and being able to show people you can be successful, and happy in a good marriage. Ellen’s so helpful to me. I think I help her too. I keep her focused on what the big picture is. I think that’s what a good couple do for each other.”
Her wedding to Ellen was a feature in ‘People,’ who spent pages gushing over every detail. Then came an hour with Oprah, titled, “Ellen DeGeneres and Her Wife, Portia de Rossi.” It’s up for a GLAAD Award – against Ellen’s own show.
“Being on Oprah was a very surreal moment,” she now recalls. “To go from being closeted and afraid to talk about my sexuality, to sitting with my wife, talking about our wedding and see most of the audience crying. Even Oprah was crying.” she recalls. “You can’t ever count yourself out. Even if you’re afraid, you can’t think there’s no room for you to do something good with your life.”
The book’s in production, but no publication date yet. And when this allegedly wonderful writer can summon four words for a title we’ll keep you informed.
