Barbara Streisand rejects $100-million Las Vegas deal
[HMG] – The entertainment business is all about numbers, but Barbara Streisand wants us to believe she’s above being bought.
Now 67, the Brooklyn-born diva has rejected an offer of $100-million to play a show on the Las Vegas strip for three years.
“After Celine Dion left Vegas, no one has been able to replace her. Bette Milder failed, Cher is trying, only Barbra is guaranteed to succeed,” an insider told Popeater. “She’s an international star and the only performer that could make people flock to Vegas year after year.”
Celine’s sell-out show closed in 2008. 62-year old Bette then moved in, and her show ‘The Showgirl Must Go On,’ at the famed Caesars Palace was a disaster — Between December ’08 and January of ’09 only one of the five shows was more than half-full. A few weeks later the whole over-priced mess was no more.
Meanwhile, Barbara’s position as one of very few performers to win a Grammy, an Oscar, a Tony and an Emmy, plus having sold over 140-million disks in an unbroken 47-year career could have made her a hit.
“Money has never been a deciding factor in her career.” says a snitch. “She plans on touring again this summer instead,”
So it’s a sad loss for Bab’s fans, but a big win for ‘Cirque Du So-Lame’ — Now they might sell some tickets…
