Rip Torn Off to Rehab – Thought Bank Was His House

(HMG) – There were a lot of eyebrows raised when Emmy Award-winning, Oscar-nominated actor Elmore “Rip” Torn was arrested packing a loaded handgun after breaking into a Connecticut bank.   State police found the 78-year-old Salisbury resident inside the Litchfield Bancorp with a loaded revolver and very drunk blowing a .203 on his Breathalyzer. He was charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree criminal mischief.  Serious stuff, but wait there is an explanation.

The police also said that Rip kept screaming about how they were taking him away from his house.  But take a look at the photo of the bank below, it does look like a darn house!  Well Agent Zed of Men in Black does have a serious drinking problem and of recent years, i.e. he’s been more ripped than torn of late. He has had his share of drunken driving arrests, including one last year that lead to probation and granted permission to enter an alcohol education program.  Rip’s lawyer is hoping to get the charges dropped because his client didn’t show the necessary intent to commit a crime. But he ended today’s hearing by saying that Rip’s going to a rehab facility to deal with his drinking problem.
