Jersey Shore Scores Second Season and Big Raise for Cast Members
(HMG) – Fist-pumping Jersey Shore fans will be glad to know, that MTV announced late Friday, that it has officially booked a second season of the wildly successful reality show. Twelve new episodes featuring the same cast from Season One will begin airing this summer, but with a twist. The Situation, Snooki, Pauly D and the rest of the crew will “escape the cold northeast and find themselves in a new destination,” according to a statement. “Our audience has fallen in love with Jersey Shore and its amazing cast who have really grown together as a family,” said the network’s president of programming.
Everyone sounds happy now, but the negotiations got ugly and, MTV gave a deadline at the end of business Friday, to accept their last offer, or all be replaced. The offer on the table, which was $10,000 per episode was finally accepted, with lawyers hammering out the number of appearances the cast can make outside the show. Cast members — especially Snooki, Pauly D and The Situation — wanted the right to appear at as many as four clubs and other venues a week, where according to TMZ, they’ve been raking in good money in appearance fees. The cast members only earned a few hundred dollars each per episode for the first season, but the finale of “Jersey Shore” was watched by 4.8 million viewers, three times the audience of the season opener.
Update: The New York Post claims the troupe could be headed for New York’s Hamptons for season 2, while The Chicago Sun-Times has South Beach Miami as the most likely next stop for Snooki & The Crew.
