Jean-Claude Van Damme in kickboxing comeback
[HMG] –
The intellectually-untroubled movies of Jean-Claude Van Damme are life-changing: Those who survived them became either unquestioning fans, or were psychologically scarred for the rest of their lives.
And now Mr. Van Damme is planning a comeback.
Trained in Karate since the age of 12, Jean-Claude is currently preparing a reality show and plans to include his next crazy challenge — A kickboxing match in China.
“It’s the first time in history a guy of 50 will go for a real fight in Macau,’” he told ESPN at a news conference last week. “It’s kind of dangerous, but life is short.”
And it could soon be much shorter! – ‘The Muscles from Brussels,’ as he’s known to his fans, has picked as his target Somluck Kamsing.
Mr. Kamsing is thirteen years younger, an Olympic Gold Medalist and has already survived over 300 kickboxing bouts.
Mr. Van Damme has never kickboxed before.
But in an admirable burst of bravado [or perhaps incomprehension?] the actor says his new reality show will cover his training for the fight [now scheduled for March,] followed by the contest itself.
“It will be the training of Van Damme,” he told the reporters.
This is not good. Jean-Claude last made a movie in 1997. Most faded stars comebacks are unwise or unwelcome but this one could also be lethal.
We’ll keep you advised if he lives…
