“Guys and Dolls” actress Jean Simmons has died
(HMG) – Gorgeous British actress Jean Simmons, has died Friday evening at her home in Santa Monica, of lung cancer at the age of 80. At age 14, Simmons made her movie debut and became well-known for her work in other British films, including her first starring role in the film adaptation of Uncle Silas, but it was playing Ophelia to Laurence Olivier’s Hamlet that made her a star. A prolific stage and film actress, Simmons, won an Emmy Award for her role in the 1980s miniseries “The Thorn Birds.”
The auburn-haired beauty starred in many notable movies with many leading men, included Guys and Dolls (Marlon Brando), The Robe (Richard Burton), Elmer Gantry (with Burt Lancaster), Until They Sail (with Paul Newman), Spartacus, (Kirk Douglas), This Earth Is Mine (Rock Hudson), The Big Country (Gregory Peck), All the Way Home (Robert Preston), Mister Buddwing (James Garner) and Rough Night in Jericho (Dean Martin). For her role in ‘Guys and Dolls’, Simmons was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Actress, and won the Golden Globe for Best Musical/Comedy Actress.
Really felt bad. First time I saw her was in Elmer Gantry. Loved the sound of her voice. May God Bless her.

I really hate it when the good ones go. She was a little before my time, but her death takes us all one step closer, ourselves. The NY Times said she was…”a talent that exceeded her roles.”

her beauty and choice of role gave one more demonstration to the interior love of life she carried.It also came through her work with beuty and a spirit that can not be copied by another ….it was a gift given to her and then given to us……
