Nicolas Cage to pay IRS $14-million for back-taxes
[HMG] – We’ve reported before on the income tax problems faced by Nicolas Cage, but news is arriving that everyone’s favorite acting enigma is finally getting things straight;
The 45-year old actor owed the IRS over $6-million in back-taxes from 2007 alone, and was also several payments behind on a $2-million line of credit from one of his banks.
To make sure they get paid the Feds put a tax lien on the extensive collection of real estate Nic had assembled, then added a bill for another $6-million to cover taxes they say he owes from 2008.
But Nic says he’s now got it under control;
“Over the course of my career I’ve paid at least $70 million in taxes,” he told People. “Unfortunately, approximately $14 million is still owed. However, I am current for 2009 and all taxes will be paid – including any, as yet undetermined state taxes.”
While that’s great news, it doesn’t soothe Nic’s other nagging financial sore — An ex-girlfriend is claiming the $1-million the IRS now want her to pay for the free house he gave her, plus the $250,000 debt she ran up on her credit card are all his fault — And she wants $13-million to pay them.
Oh, the glamorous life of a movie star. We’ll keep you advised how this goes…
