Ivan Reitman Says He Will Direct “Ghostbusters 3″

Ivan Reitman(HMG) – Ghostbusters 3, is on!  It’s been strongly rumored that there was eventually going to be a third installment in the Ghostbusters series, with reports that Sony studio had recruited “The Office” writer-producers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg to work on a new installment of the 1980s franchise, that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis as bumbling ghost-hunting scientists.  But now Director Ivan Reitman has confirmed he will be helming the second Ghostbusters sequel, which he hopes will go into production later this year. Reitman,  directed both of the original 1980s Ghostbusters films.

An excited Reitman told MTV News on Wednesday, that a second draft of the script from Stupnitsky and Eisenberg is now in the works and hopes to “start shooting in this next year,” with a 2011 release likely. Reitman’s last turn behind the camera was 2006′s My Super Ex-Girlfriend, starring Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson.

While a new ghost-hunting scientist cast is expected for Ghostbusters 3, during the Avatar promotional tour In London, Sigourney Weaver, shared a few intriguing comments, saying that the original cast likely would be returning and speculated that Bill Murray’s character Pete Venkman might appear in the movie as a slimer ghost. She also said her character’s son, Oscar, who was kidnapped in the last movie, has grown up to be a ghostbuster.
