David Goldman says he now longs to be called Dad
[HMG] – As we reported before, following five years of legal battles and pain the boy’s biological mother would never have seen, David Goldman successfully brought his son home on Christmas Eve – But this overdue truth has yet to sink in;
“It’s a miracle,” Goldman told NBC‘s Meredith Vieira. “There were 364 other days it could’ve been, but it was Christmas Eve. Somebody’s up there for sure…That’s amazing.”
Since Goldman’s late wife took Sean to Brazil for two weeks in 2004, David has fought a one-man pitched battle to reclaim what is his. But it took five years of legalized warfare and Hillary Clinton to finally see justice done.
“There are no words to describe the pain and suffering of the last five years. And there are no words for how joyous and wonderful it is to be with my son again,” David told Ms. Vieira.
A nine-hour flight on an NBC-chartered plane finally brought Sean to his home, and David refused to believe until that plane left the ground. But before arriving at his new home in New Jersey, Sean had one stop to make — Disney World.
“He was with his cousins, and they were having fun. He’s loved…Very, very loved,” Goldman said.
Now they’re together in Sean’s rightful home, David says something’s still missing — Sean has still not called him Dad.
“He hasn’t really called me anything,” says Goldman. “And I think he’s struggling with that. I said, ‘You can call me Dad.’ And he didn’t say anything.”
David also reveals that the goofy, 4-year old boy who was stolen from him is still there in the 9-year old son he got back;” He was such a happy, sweet boy. I hope he still has some innocence left. I believe he does.”
Meredith later asked Goldman Sr. what it will mean the first time his son does call him “Dad.”?
“It’ll mean the world when he says it,” Goldman replied, close to tears. “It would mean we’ve come a long way.”
