David and Sean Goldman(HMG)– David Goldman was finally reunited with his 9-year-old son Sean early Thursday morning in Brazil, after five-years of court battles.  Chief Justice Gilmar Mendes lifted a stay on a lower court order last week that Sean be returned to his father, who lives in Tinton Falls, N.J.  David Goldman sat in his hotel room for hours yesterday, checking his e-mail on a laptop for updates from the U.S. Embassy in Brazil, anxiously awaiting his son with a plastic bag filled with Christmas presents.

Sean was brought to the U.S. consulate by his maternal grandmother and his stepfather, wearing a gold shirt with the Brazilian flag and Olympic rings, according to the New York Times.  He carried his luggage into the consulate building with his maternal grandmother, Silvana Bianchi beside him in tears. Bianchi told the throng of reporters, “this is a very difficult moment.” David Goldman plans to leave Brazil to fly back home to New Jersey with his son, within hours. Goldman has said, after experiencing repeated legal disappointments that he would not rest, until he was on a plane bound for the U.S. with Sean at his side and now it’s finally about to happen.

Update: Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., told CBS News a charter flight carrying David and Sean Goldman is now heading back to the United States.
