Jerry Seinfeld takes ‘Tonight Show’ from Conan O’Brien?
[HMG] – Since Conan O’Brien took the Tonight Show’s reins from Jay Leno, ratings have been in a free-fall. And now even the intellectually untroubled Muppets who run NBC are said to be plotting replacement. And top of their list for the job is the unique Jerry Seinfeld.
“NBC just can’t carry on like this,” an NBC insider has told Popeater. ‘The Tonight Show’ has lost 52-percent of its viewers in a single year. Last month’s ratings will be the lowest in 15 years,” we are told.
Since his self-titled sit-com, which scored stunning [and wholly inexplicable] ratings for the network from its debut in July 1989 to a hype-saturated finale in May ’98, Seinfeld was, and remains NBC’s golden boy. But getting the former star to step into the show is thought by insiders to be a long-shot at best.
But how do we know such plans are in motion? Easy: Because the chair-bound simpletons who took a late-night show with no competition and screwed it into the floor are now denying the story with every available breath;
“Completely false,” NBC spokesman, Drew Shane told reporters. “There are no conversations happening. Conan is the host of the ‘Tonight Show,” he insisted.
Only a network could hire this much dumb. — Jay Leno was #1 for seventeen years; No other show could see his ratings with Hubble. So what do the geniuses at NBC do? Cast him adrift and suck up to Conan. And now their own witless meddling might threaten their jobs they’re scrambling for life-belts, while fervently denying they’re just saving their own necks.
They couldn’t find their own butts with both hands and a map…and we let these clowns run a network…

Jerry would be a poor choice. I love the guy. But he’s not host materail.
As we have seen, comics make poor talk show hosts, at least on a 5 day a week basis.
Put Jay back on Tonight, pay Conan off, and write it up as a lesson learned.
Jay has 6 or 7 years before he is as old as Carson was when HE RETIRED.
Comcast has to do the ‘unthinkable’, reverse The Tonight Show decision.
I don’t find Jay Leno funny at all. I love watching Conan O’brien! They should just leave him and give him time to bring the ratings up! Conan has gone through this before when he first started late night and he prevailed!
Jay Leno is the worst and most overrated talk show host in television history. He’s like a robot in interviews, burning through the questions without paying attention to a word the guest is saying. His sketches are lame. His monologue is his only saving grace, but its no where near as funny as Conan’s.
Conan on the other hand is probably the greatest talk show host in television history. Perfect at monologue, sketches, and interviews – the whole package.
I really can’t see Jerry as a talk show host. He’s not a political or current events comedy type guy nor slapstick – his brand is more high brow quality humor you pay 100 bucks to see (literally), he wouldn’t cheapen himself with a cheap nightly talk show monologue, nor would it be a good fit (he wouldn’t be funny at it) He doesn’t do sketches… and I really cant see him interviewing people…
This is pure bunk. The ratings are down because it takes time to build a generate a new audience. Give it time and Conan will be number 1. I’d also say that the very existence of Jay Leno’s crappy show is bringing down all of late night talk.
Conan has the potential to be the best, but because of the timeslot NBC reigns in that potential.Seinfeld is good, but not great. His humor is good for a chuckle, but it’s not the type that gets you rolling on the floor. He was the straight man on his own show…the cast around him were funnier than he could ever be.
Haha. That woudl be funny! Go Seinfeld go!
