X-Men_First_Class(HMG) – Being a former Marvel and DC comic collector, I give a lot of attention to the superhero movie world between the gossip posts.  I anticipated there might be some sort of new X-Men movie someday even though Brett Ratner’s  X-Men: The Last Stand, seemed to kill a few of the stalwart heroes.  But I was unaware a screenplay was already being worked on by screenwriter Josh Schwartz of “The O.C.” and “Gossip Girl,”  for X-Men: First Class. I am not up to date with the ‘First Class’ comic books but according to Wikipedia the original series was an eight-issue limited series. It began in September 2006 and ended in April 2007. It was written by Jeff Parker and penciled by Roger Cruz. It was followed by a special issue in May 2007 and a monthly series that premiered in June 2007 with the same creative team. Many of the series’ stories, featuring the original team of X-Men Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, Jean Grey, and Professor X, are done in single issues, some are two-parters and multiple issue arcs. And now Bryan Singer who directed the first and second X-Men installments of the trilogy, has revealed that he has recently signed on to direct “X-men: First Class, ” during the Los Angeles premiere of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’. Singer dropped out of ‘The Last Stand’, to take on Superman Returns. Most die hard X-Men fans hated Last Stand, but I liked it, and I certainly didn’t care for Superman Returns. It is currently unknown when “X-men: First Class” will start production.
