Hugh Grant ‘regrets’ making $18-million in deal

hugh-grant[HMG] – Whatever you think of Hugh Grant as an actor, his skills as an art dealer should turn you all green.

The 49-year old Brit now admits to being ‘drunk off my head’ when he paid $3.25-million for one of Andy Warhol’s portraits of Elizabeth Taylor back in 2001. But his unforeseen skills as an art connoisseur really came into play when he sold it six years later — and made a cool $18-million in profit.

‘It all began with drink,” he tells the UK’s Daily Mail. “I had a drunken dinner with my father the night before and said we should go and see my brother Jamie in New York. So we flew over on Concorde, had lunch and drank a lot of beer.”

The paralytic pair then found themselves at a Sotheby’s auction and Hugh did some shopping. He quickly spotted the painting and told an assistant to put in a bid. And things got expensive from there;

“To my horror, she bid…And even worse, got it!” he recalls.

In 2007 the Oxford graduate resold it to an unknown collector for $22-million in cold-sober cash.

But despite achieving the largest ever profit for one work from the set, Hugh still regrets letting go of the portrait; “I do rather regret selling it now, even though it made me rich,” he admits with that typically British ungrateful bravura.

Don’t you just love it when spoiled, rich people get bent out of shape?…
