Did Gov. Schwarzenegger Forget About $80,000 in Back Taxes?

Posted on November 28th, 2009 by sue

Arnold Schwarzenegger(HMG) – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger owes the IRS nearly $80,000 in back taxes, according to a TMZ report. Oops! That’s a hefty chunk of change to have overlooked. And the IRS is apparently tired of waiting for payment. So, the agency has filed a tax lien on all of the properties owned by the former body builder and action-movie star. The tax lien will stay in place, until Schwarzenegger pays up.

The Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office shows an active tax lien on properties owned by the governor of the near bankrupt state of California. It seems times are hard on everyone during these days.

The IRS lien was filed on May 11, 2009 at the Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office for $79,064, according to the publicly available electronic records. The lien record lists the debtor, as Arnold Schwarzenegger and his home address in Brentwood, CA.

The lien document shows that Schwarzenegger owes $39,047.20 from 2004 and $40,016.80 from 2005.

However, a spokesman for the governor has issued a statement saying, that he has paid all of his taxes. Schwarzenegger’s spokesman Aaron McLear said, the “governor has paid his taxes in full and on time,” and that he has not been notified of a problem.

“No one, including the IRS, has notified the governor of any issues whatsoever with his taxes,” McLear said.

McLear added that the lien documents appear to reference a penalty for missing information and not for unpaid taxes. Schwarzenegger’s own records will be checked for any discrepancies.

IRS spokesman, Dean Patterson, was unable to comment on individual tax cases.
