CBS Proves Adam Lambert’s Double Standard Claim During Interview (Video)

(HMG) — I thought we were done with this but not just yet. Adam Lambert was on CBS The Early Show this morning, and they unwittingly proved his point that there is a double standard when it comes to censoring gay sexual situations on TV. Lambert appeared this morning to perform two songs off of his new album, and to chat briefly about the controversy he stirred as a result of his performance at the 2009 AMA’s, which led to rival show, Good Morning America to cancel his scheduled appearance the day before. To set up the interview, The Early Show aired his man-to-man kiss at the AMAs but put a well placed smudge hiding the smooch, I guess so the children out there won’t try that at home. A few moments later in a look at other controversial performances, they aired the infamous Britney Spears – Madonna kiss in a WTF moment, without censoring it all. Double standard!
In the actual interview Lambert rightfully refused to apologize for his performance on the AMA’s and said, “I think that if it had been a female pop performer doing the moves that were on the stage, I don’t think there would be nearly as much of an outrage. At all. Like I said, there were other performers doing risque things. I think it’s because I’m a gay male, and people haven’t seen that before.”
Since the interview CBS has been feeling the heat of there obvious double standard and issued this weak statement in their defense, “The Madonna image is very familiar and has appeared countless times including many times on morning TV. The Adam Lambert image is a subject of great current controversy, has not been nearly as widely disseminated, and for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences.”
I have to admit personally it doesn’t bother me to see a girl on girl kiss, but two dudes making out is something I would rather not watch. But I would mostly rather not watch gratuitous graphic violence either, but TV censors seem to think it’s fine and dandy to show excessive amounts of it.
