Oprah Winfrey to end her syndicated TV talk show in 2011

(HMG) — As we speculated on a few weeks ago, it has now been confirmed the Oprah Winfrey show will end its run in 2011 after 25 seasons on the air. Winfrey plans to make the announcement herself during a live broadcast Friday, where she will reveal the final show date in Sept. 2011, Harpo Productions Inc. announced in a letter, which told stations to share the news.
And that’s quite a twist if you take that statement at face value. Because rumors have been swirling for some time, that plans have been in the works for Oprah, to start her own cable channel, The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), as a collaboration with Discovery. But just because the show won’t be ‘transferred’ doesn’t mean it won’t be reincarnated in some way. Is this a good move for the talk show legend? We’ll see! In the meantime the move is a big blow to local television stations, which use Ms. Winfrey to anchor their daytime hours. While her daily ratings are not as big as they once were, its unlikely another daytime talk show will be able to fill Oprah’s shoes anytime soon. We will have more details as they emerge.
