The Who due to headline Superbowl XLIV?
Classic 60′s rock-band, The Who are now on course to gain legions of fans as the headlining act at next year’s Superbowl.
Led by its two sole survivors, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, the London-based group are have been tipped to star in the half-time show for Super Bowl XLIV on February 7th.
Considering CBS uses several ‘Who’ songs in their CSI shows and they have the rights to the broadcast next year, choosing The Who was a patent no-brainer. But the NFL – who own the whole show – still haven’t confirmed it as yet;
“When we have something to announce, we’ll announce it,” a short-tempered spokesman told the NY Post.
With audiences that reach 93-million in the US alone, the Superbowl holds the record for the largest single ratings ever scored by one show, and this has made it a highly-prized date for some true A-list talent; Previous picks have included Paul McCartney, U2, The Stones, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and, of course, Janet Jackson and her famous ‘malfunction.
So the Who will be following the tracks of some truly great feet.
But this news, if it’s true, is quite a surprise as the remaining band members do not get along. As we reported last year, Pete and Roger refuse to even share the same space unless they’re standing on stage. Their next chance to touch base will be at the game in Miami, but it remains to be seen if they can ever get on…
