Swift also made light of her VMAs encounter with Kanye West during one of her acceptance speeches: “And I want to thank everybody in the room tonight for not running up on the stage during my speech,” she said. Getting more serious she said:
“In this moment, everything that I have ever wanted just happened to me.”
Swift also kicked off the CMAs with a performance of “Forever and Always,” a tune she wrote about her breakup with Joe Jonas. Other great live performances came from Kid Rock who teamed with Jamey Johnson, Daughtry joined Vince Gill on stage for “Tennessee Line,” Dave Matthews sang “I’m Alive” with Kenny Chesney, and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons jammed with Brooks & Dunn. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley entertained (above) and served as co-hosts of the CMAs. Darius Rucker, the lead singer of the rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, who has gone country–picking up the award for best new artist, in one of the most touching moments of the night.
