Robert Pattinson still humble

With the torrent of hype that surrounds every movie, you might think Robert Pattinson would have a major-league ego by now? But you’d be mistaken. Interviewed by London’s ‘New’ magazine, the 23-year old was quite modest about both his looks and his romantic status…

Rumors link him to co-star, Kristen Stewart, and lately to the Hollywood publicist, Erika Dutra. But Robert denies such success;  “Girls scream for Edward, not Robert,” he says. “I still can’t get a date!”

Asked if he was romantic, Rob fumbled for words, “I used to be…Very. But acting ruined my techniques because you over-analyze everything. I don’t think I’m romantic anymore, just a bit manic-depressive.”

Has he ever fought over a girl? “No! I’m terrified of fights. I feel like saying, “Hey, I’m an actor — don’t touch the face!” And what kind of girls catch his eye? “Those who are strong and have a lot of darkness to them,” was the intriguing response.

So how does it feel to be a fantasy figure to millions? “It’s funny, because if the fans were to talk to me for five minutes, the illusion would be gone!” he replies with a laugh. “There’s no way to be what so many people want because everybody has their own view.”

One cause of devotion is his short, messy hair. Is this his own style, Rob was asked? “No, that’s all because, as a child I used to hate my dad wanting to brush my hair. So this whole thing is just from me not brushing it,” he admits.

Next, he was asked how life had changed since Twilight debuted? “It was OK for a while, but suddenly people started hanging around outside my house,” Rob explains. “And it’s funny because, no matter how uninteresting what you do is, it still ends up on magazine covers. It’s just weird.”

And some of the fans can be equally odd; “I used to get people leaving notes on my car every day. The first would say, “I’m not weird or anything — just call me.” Next day, it would be more like, “Please don’t ignore me.” And by the third day it’d say something like, “If you ignore me, I’ll kill myself…But I’m not weird.”

And what’s next on his list after Twilight debuts? “I’m doing a couple of films. I’m not doing massive movies, they’re just things that say something to me.”

Modest, isn’t he?

In case you’ve been under a rock, you can catch Rob in ‘Twilight: New Moon’ which opens at the end of next week…
