Natalie Portman calls first nude scene ‘extreme’

Although Natalie Portman has been offered nude scenes in the past, her clothes-free debut in the upcoming movie, Black Swan, is causing a stir.

Natalie’s resistance to nude work has been quite well known — She even caused a rewrite of her role in the 1999 movie, ‘Anywhere But Here’ because it included a nude scene and she did not have the nerve;

“I was figuring out my own sexual identity, likes and dislikes and all that, and it’s weird to be doing stuff on film as you’re figuring that out,” she told Australia’s Daily Telegraph. “I’m not opposed to sex or nudity in a film, but I’m very opposed to porn sites, and you’re giving them material if you do that…It’s a big dilemma for me,” she admits.

But after numerous offers Natalie, 28, has finally taken the plunge; Due to bow in your cinemas next year the thriller, ‘Black Swan’ relates the tense interaction between a seasoned ballet dancer and her upcoming rival, and includes what Natalie describes as a serious lesbian scene.

“It’s not raunchy…but it’s extreme,” admits the Israel-born actress whose closest same-sex encounter to this point was a brief on-screen smooch with Scarlett Johansson, who played her sister in the glorious BBC costume-drama, ‘The Other Boleyn Girl,’ which was broadcast last year.

Going nude for a film has also made Natalie painfully aware of the focus on beauty in today’s showbiz world, “As actresses approach 40, it gets really difficult,” she told the hacks. “You see people who were stars five years ago and already they’re waning.”

So will she have some work done when 40 arrives? “I would hope not,” she replies, but then admits that could change as she ages and good roles become scarce.

Black Swan is now in production and is scheduled to debut mid-Summer next year.
