Here’s an interesting topic we would love to have you weigh in on. The CW network has been running commercials promoting an upcoming episode of “Gossip Girl” and particularly a sexual threesome apparently involving Blake Lively who plays the role of Serena van der Woodsen.
The Parents Television Council (PTC)is asking affiliates of the CW network to pre-empt the show. The organization has sent a letter to Entertainment Weekly and the CW, written by PTC chief Tim Winter, which states, “To include a story line like this on a program that is expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers is reckless and irresponsible. I appeal to your highest sense of decency, respect and common sense in urging you to preempt this episode.”
It’s not the first time the PTC has complained about the sexy prep-school soap, which Winter said is “expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers.” They were none to thrilled with the sexually based content promoting the new season either.
“CW has been defending graphic content on ‘Gossip Girl’ by asserting that they don’t target teenagers,” Winters said Wednesday. “Such a claim doesn’t even pass the ‘laugh test.’”
The PTC has urged CW affiliate stations not to air the episode, scheduled for Nov. 9. Typically this means the shows ratings will be through the roof. Well does the PTC have a point or are they being prudes?
