John Lithgow’s serial killer brings new spice to Showtime’s ‘Dexter’

I haven’t gotten to see much of Dexter, over the last couple of years but it’s a great show. The show has been especially riveting since seasoned and talented actor John Lithgow joined the cast as a fiendish serial killer called “Trinity,” who kills in threes, in gruesome ways.
Some might remember Lithgow for his comic chops in “3rd Rock from the Sun.” But the Emmy and Tony award-winner is a great all around actor in all mediums, plays, TV and movies. And he does bad so good as seen in “Blow Out” and “Obsession” for Brian De Palma, and “Cliffhanger,” in which Lithgow adopted a British accent and particularly chilling demeanor.
In a new interview with the Associated Press, Lithgow said he nearly passed on the role with an Italian vacation and his son’s wedding awaiting, but his wife convinced him to do it, putting off the vacation. Lithgow tells the AP of his character:
“This man is very two-faced, like Dexter. A serial killer by definition is a man who presents himself in a very different way to the world,” Lithgow said. “So it’s an actor’s field day figuring out what you reveal and what you don’t.”
It’s difficult to push such a portrayal too far given the behavior of real-life murderers, he said.
