Jaycee Dugard’s abductor claims fear thwarted release

In what is clearly no more than self-serving contrition, Nancy Garrido, who stands accused along with her husband, Phillip, of falsely imprisoning Jaycee Dugard is now claiming she tried to free their young victim, and trying to switch sides as a witness instead.

The pair are now facing trial on charges of abducting Jaycee – then aged 11 – from a bus stop near her home in South Lake Tahoe, California in July 1991, and imprisoning her in their back yard near Antioch for the past 18 years.

Police say it was Nancy who snatched Jaycee at the bus stop and dragged her into their car, but the blame-shifting suspect now says she had ‘a change of heart’ soon after the crime.

“Nancy is saying she tried to free Jaycee more than once,” an insider tells the Enquirer. “But she claims that fear for her own life kept her from doing it.”

The 54-year old wife and suspect is currently negotiating with prosecutors and trying to become a state’s witness against her own husband in order to avoid or reduce any jail time for herself.

We’ll let you know how that goes…
