Men In Black 3 moving forward but is Will Smith onboard?

Published on October 30, 2009 at 2:53 PM

In long foreseen news that should surprise almost no-one, Sony Pictures is now prepping ‘Men in Black III.’

Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed the first two installments, is already on board, and Ethan Cohen has been signed up to create the script…but they still haven’t got Will Smith to sign on.

Sony wants to start shooting next Spring and Ethan is said to be well into first draft with the script and typing a storm….But Will won’t say yes. Tommy Lee Jones’ reaction to starring is also unknown.

With the first two movies scoring Sony a box-office bounty of $1.1-billion, Will’s refusal to commit to a third is stalling a project that everyone wants…and you can bet that he knows it.

The word is that Will [seen here with wife, Jada] wants to come back, and with no other movies in play he has little choice if he wants to stay famous…But this is Hollywood, so the ego’s in play.

THR reports that the talks are ongoing, and we’ll let you know when Mr. Smith can unclench…
