Former Female Writer For Letterman Dishes About ‘Sexual Politics’

The ethical questions, and the questions about possible sexual harassment, in the workplace have been on the tip of every blogger’s tongue since it was found that David Letterman was schtupping his female writers. The staffers on the show have denied this, but one female writer who used to work for the show has shed a little light on the issue.

Nell Scovell is a consummate pro. She has worked for shows like ‘Monk’, and was the creator of ‘Sabrina: The Teenage Witch”. But she has made some comments about the conduct of Letterman and other male staff members on the show from when she was on their team, and none of it has been positive.

Scovell claimed that she had known about the sexual affairs happening around the office, and that professional favors were often given to the women involved in turn.

“Did that make me feel demeaned? Completely. Did I say anything at the time? Sadly, no,” she wrote in a Vanity Fair article.

She explains in the article that the tension and sexual politics had been high in the office, and she had realized that she would not get anywhere without sleeping her way there first.

She ended up telling Letterman that she was leaving, but when pressed about why, she hadn’t had the courage to tell him. Most of the reason being that his alleged mistress was standing a few feet away. So, she told him she missed L.A., and he told her she was back any time.

“I don’t want compensation. I don’t want revenge. I don’t want Dave to go down (oh, grow up, people). I just want Dave to hire some qualified female writers and then treat them with respect. And that goes for Jay and Conan, too.”
