Madonna now building new school in Malawi

As part of her ongoing campaign to expand on her fame without engaging in work, Madonna is scheduled to visit Malawi today to attend a ground-breaking ceremony for a new school being funded by a charity with whom she is linked.
Due to be built in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital, CNN says the school, ‘Raising Malawi Academy for Girls,’ from which all boys are excluded, now has the mission to educate local girls on how to grow up to be their nation’s new leaders.
“Our goal is to teach them to challenge themselves, serve their local communities and develop their country,” the singer said in a statement published on the charity’s blog. “Research proves that young girls throughout the developing world are often left without opportunities to receive education,” her post goes on to say.
Located in the south-eastern corner of Africa, Malawi has a population of around 12-million people, more than half of whom are under the age of 15. The average woman gives birth to five children, but there is only one qualified teacher for every 95 pupils so the new school will clearly be filling a need.
The two children whom the 51-year old pop star adopted from the virtually destitute east-African nation, David, 4, and Mercy James, age 3, will be with her to witness the new school’s beginning, as will her 13-year old daughter, Lourdes, and Rocco, who’s 9.
There’s no word yet on when the school’s due to open, but as new details arrive we will keep you informed…
