‘Footloose’ director gets bad case of cold feet

In a serious upset for a movie already the focus of numerous falls, Gilmore Girls and ‘Ally McBeal’ director, Kenny Ortega has now walked away from the remake of ‘Footloose.’
Embroiled in promotion for the Michael Jackson memorial movie, ‘This Is It’ which opens on Wednesday, the 59-year old Palo Alto native fell out with Paramount – ‘Footloose’s studio – over ‘creative concerns.’ Ken wanted the music to star, while the Paramout suits said the story should lead. It seems compromise was impossible, so Kenny’s moved on.
Both sides have since confirmed this creative ‘divorce,’ by releasing a statement, “Coming off the extraordinary project, ‘This is It,’ director Kenny Ortega has decided it is premature for him to commit to his next film and will not be moving forward with ‘Footloose’ as previously reported.” says the version republished by the Variety dudes.
A replacement director for the upcoming remake of the 1984 musical hit which introduced Kevin Bacon has not yet been found, but the casting is well under way; ‘Gossip Girl’ lead, Chace Crawford [seen here] will take Kevin’s role, while DWTS hoofer, Julianne Hough apparently wowed Paramount’s suits with her dancing and will now be his co-star.
The movie starts shooting in L.A in March, and is [currently] due for release on June 18.
