Heene Family Balloon Bursts – Mom ‘admits balloon boy hoax’
The overhyped story, where cable news outlets tried to outdo each other to cover what they thought was going to be a dramatic rescue or tragedy has come to a deflating but anticipated end. The mother of the six-year-old Colorado boy thought to have been on board a runaway homemade helium balloon has reportedly admitted to investigators the whole story was a bunch of hot air (pun intended). To recap first, on October 15, cable news broke to a live shot of the silver saucer-like balloon soaring through the Colorado skies to captivate audiences that a little boy was in grave danger. The balloon eventually landed but was found empty, with fears that little Falcon Henne may have fallen out. Falcon later was found hiding in the family home attic Suspicion of a hoax arose when the child blurted out it was for a how, during an interview that they did it for television.
But it’s now being reported an affidavit used to get a search warrant for the family’s home says Mayumi Heene admitted that she and her husband “knew all along” that 6-year-old Falcon was hiding in their home. She allegedly told investigators that they had devised the hoax about two weeks earlier and “instructed their three children to lie to authorities” and the media about it.
“The motive for the fabricated story was to make the Heene family more marketable for future media interest,” the affidavit states.
