Guy Ritchie calls Madonna retarded

Almost a year after his divorce from Madonna was final, Guy Ritchie is now able to reflect on the past. “I still love her,” he tells Esquire magazine in their November issue, but is still quick to add, “But she’s retarded, too.”

Married for almost eight years to the superstar singer, who is ten years his senior, the 41-year old movie director is still clearly a fan. “She’s a manifester, if there ever was one,” Guy tells the scribes. “Madonna makes things happen. Put her up against any 23-year-old and she’ll outwork them, out-dance them, out-perform them.”

But beneath the bravado, the interview excerpts shown on Ace prove the scars from their breakup are still pretty fresh,  “You can’t tell someone getting divorced that their pain’s an illusion. I’ve been through that…No-one can say you don’t feel that.”

For most of their eight years together Madonna relocated to London, and Guy has fond memories of how the Brit’s treated a person the US paparazzi just see as raw meat, “When she came in here, it was old-school London. No one bothered her. ‘Hello, darlin,’ How are you, dear? What can we get you?’ It didn’t matter who she was – she was my wife.”

A more solid memento, whom Guy still loves as though he were gold is their 9-year old son, Rocco John. He also shares custody of their adopted son, David.

But childcare aside, Guy’s still hard at work – his next movie, a Sherlock Holmes story starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law is scheduled to open on December 25.
