Jon and Kate Gosselin to break up the brood?

As if the bitter and increasingly spiteful divorce between Jon and Kate Gosselin was not toxic enough, it now seems the split will divide more than just a husband and wife. Their flock of eight children will broken as well.

“Jon and Kate both realize the nastiness between them is creating an unhealthy atmosphere for the kids, so they’ll split them up,” a close told  the Enquirer. “Jon will take the twin 8-year old girls, Mady and Cara, while Kate will keep the sextuplets. It really is the lesser of two evils.”

At present, the warring pair share parenting time at their $1.3-million mansion in Wernersville, a small town of less than 3,500 people in north-east Pennsylvania.

Assuming this curious arrangement is followed, the twins would live with Jon in New York, while Kate and the 5-year old sextuplets would take over this sprawling Pennsylvania campus, according to well-informed sources.

“Jon wants to spend more time in New York to work on his relationship with Hailey Glassman,” says a friend. “He also thinks it will be easier to make business deals if he’s in the city,” they explained.

Kate, meanwhile, has other priorities; “She just wants to be as far from Jon as possible,” says the friend. “She doesn’t want to share the house and she’s tired of having to leave whenever he’s there.”

Their spite-riddled divorce and custody battle – which you can bet will be exploited to rescue their plummeting ratings — is expected to be a done deal within weeks. The only snag is an ongoing feud over how to divide the $10-million the show has already earned them.
