Oliver Stone to explore nation’s secrets
Known by his peers as one of the major supporters of the notion that governments always keeps secrets, Oliver Stone is now getting his chance to show us the proof;
Having already created semi-investigative movies on JFK, Richard Nixon and the Vietnam war, the 63-year old New Yorker has now partnered with Showtime to create and produce a 10-part documentary entitled, ‘Secret History of America,’ which he’ll also narrate.
“We are very happy that Oliver Stone chose Showtime as the home for this provocative series,” their programming president Robert Greenblatt told the Hollywood Reporter. “Not only is he a visionary filmmaker, but also a fascinating storyteller.”
According to the show’s press release, the series will focus on ‘events that went under-reported, but crucially shaped American history of the last 60 years.” Topics will include President Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, plus new information on JFK’s reign, the Vietnam War and the impact on America of communism’s decline in the late 1980s.
“Through this 10-hour series, which I feel is the deepest contribution I could make to the next generation, I can only hope a change in our thinking will result,” Stone explained in a statement.
There’s no exact air date for the show at this point, but it’s expected to debut in mid-2010.
