Report: Michael Jackson’s Doctor facing manslaughter charge?

Published on August 19, 2009 at 3:23 PM

LAPD sources are unofficially reporting that Michael Jackson’s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray will be charged with manslaughter within two weeks, and an arrest is expected in a week. Perhaps even less.

The sources tell Fox that LAPD investigators will execute a new search warrant at a local pharmacy next week to gain more evidence against Dr. Murray, then conduct the arrest as soon as that’s done.

And Dr. Murray is not the only physician facing charges; Jackson’s dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein, may face charges for medical malpractice. But LAPD officers are still building that case, and no arrest has been scheduled as yet.

Dr. Murray has admitted giving Mr. Jackson the powerful sedative, Propofol on the night of his death, and tests have confirmed the drug was indeed a factor in the singer’s death.

As California law allows suspects to be charged with second-degree murder without need of a motive, the LAPD had hoped to charge Dr. Murray with that more serious crime. But they are concerned a jury may not convict without a clear motive or ‘probable cause,’ so manslaughter charges may be issued instead.

Unable to keep in touch with his friends by e-mail or phone due to a barrage of death threats, the Doctor posted a video on ‘You Tube’ yesterday to keep them all calm, “I want to thank all my patients and friends who have sent such kind messages,” he says. “Your messages give me strength and keep me going. They mean the world to me,” the one-minute monologue continues. “As long as I keep God in my heart and you in my life, I will be fine….I told the truth and I have faith the truth will prevail.”

It’s not known who paid for the video, but it is unlikely to be Dr. Murray — Despite being paid $150,000 a month for working with Jackson the Doctor is broke, and may soon face eviction from his Las Vegas home.

His viewers were happy to hear from their friend, but others say the tape was merely a ploy to gain sympathy and influence any possible jurors. “This was a total PR stunt,” says former Broward County prosecutor, Kenneth Padowitz. “What they’re trying to do is humanize him and show this is not a bad guy.” he explained to Fox News. “It’s a transparent attempt to get feelings in his favor. It’s a gimmick.”

Dr. Klein, meanwhile, is also attempting to cover his…tracks; He has admitted supplying Michael Jackson with the painkiller, Demorol, but insists he never prescribed Diprivan [Propofol's major brand name,] and even warned Jackson on the risks of that drug.

Last month, the LA coroner subpoenaed all of Dr. Klein’s records, but what problems these may cause is not known at this point.

Dr. Klein has also been active in the custody case. His Twitter account recently carried a link to a statement by his attorney that Dr. Klein has had, “a special relationship” with Paris and the two Princes, and was “looking out for their best interest.” It also stated the Doctor now wanted “the ability to continue his involvement as a very close friend…and offers his guidance and protection forever.”

Another ploy? Maybe — It’s hard to ‘guide and protect’ from San Quentin.

The case is ongoing and we’ll keep you advised.
