Robert Downy takes over Tom Cruise roleIn news that will no doubt thrill the legions of fans he acquired as Tony Stark, it’s been disclosed that Robert Downey Jr. is now in discussions with Universal to assume the role first played by Tom Cruise as the vampire, Lestat

In what is clearly a ploy to share in the box-office gold mine first drilled by ‘Twilight,’ Universal Pictures are now prepping a sequel to the 1994, Tom Cruise-fronted gore-flick, ‘Interview with the Vampire,’ and its 2004 sequel “Queen of the Damned,” which starred Stuart Townsend.

The Vampire Chronicles is a series of ten novels which gripped legions of readers from the first days of their debut in 1976. The core of their story revolves around Lestat de Lioncourt, a fictional French nobleman who becomes a vampire in late-18th century renaissance France.

Assuming Universal take the ten books in sequence, the next movie should be based on 1992′s, ‘The Tale of the Body Thief.’ Robert has not signed on for sure yet, and no other cast information has so far been released, but we’ll keep you updated as new details emerge.
