Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder Civil to re-marry?
After what may be the steepest career decline in the history of singing, which preceded a bitter, high-profile divorce, Amy Winehouse is now asking her upcoming ex-husband Blake Fielder Civil to get back together.
The pair spoke on Tuesday, and Amy asked him to call off the divorce. The decree is not final until August 28, but Blake is not sure they should stop, “We’ve been talking for the first time in six months. I love her as much as ever, and I know she still loves me.” he told the UK’s News of the World. “Maybe this time we can do everything right and not mess it up. She has even been wearing my engagement ring, which meant an awful lot.”
The 27-year old music video producer is still in rehab in northern England after being discharged from prison in February, where he was sent for assault and trying to rig his own trial. Amy, meanwhile is at home in North London, having returned from her own informal rehab in the Caribbean.
Blake filed for divorce after Amy’s repeated infidelity, but he’s now reconsidering that call, “The divorce made us both realize what we had,” he told the reporters. “We’re meant to be together, despite what anyone thinks. I want to take her out for dinner and propose again.”
Any such plans would meet strong opposition from Amy’s family, who blame Blake for getting her hooked on heroin and crack. But friends seem convinced it should happen, “Amy is desperate to get back with Blake, and the difference is Blake is now clean. For them to re-marry would be amazing,” said one close pal. “Blake told her if they can stay clear of the drugs, they have a real chance.”
The divorce has been stalled by the pair’s lawyers fighting over how to divide 25-year old Amy’s $16-million fortune. And friends say Blake wants the divorce to be final – then for them to re-marry, “He wants to court her again,” says one friend. “He hopes that will give Amy a chance to pull herself together. If she manages that, he wants to re-marry.”
The couple met in 2004, two years before Amy’s ‘Back to Black’ album made her a star. Blake admits he soon had her hooked on crack and heroin, and Amy’s career went downhill from there. In May 2007 the pair secretly married in Miami. Three months later, Amy almost died after a three-day drug binge with Blake. One year later, Blake was in jail — and that’s when Amy cheated on him, with at least four different men.
But Blake is also alleged to have cheated — A friend of Amy’s, Gilleen Morris, 31, claims he made her pregnant in rehab. The child is due in eight weeks, but Blake is demanding a paternity test.
One week from Friday, the divorce takes effect. Let’s watch and see what the two do from there…
