St. Elmo’s Fire remake to char ABC

Not content with remaking movies, Hollywood’s next bright idea is to remake some as shows. According to the Hollywood Reporter, ABC are now preparing a TV-show adaptation of the 1985 brat-pack movie, St. Elmo’s Fire — and they want to make it like ‘Friends.’
The hour-long shows, described by the producers as “Like ‘Friends,’ with more drama” will center on a group of three men and three women – all just out of college – who hang-out together at ‘St. Elmo’s Bar & Grill’ in the original film’s setting of Georgetown in Washington D.C.
“I feel it’s time to re-create ‘Friends’ in the hour-long format,” says Dan Bucatinsky, one of ‘Elmo’s producers. “And it feels like this is the perfect opportunity.”
The 1985 movie debuted such names as Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy and others, and stands among the definitive examples of the ‘Brat Pack’ movie style.
So far, no cast is announced for this adaptation, but those at the helm are clearly in love with what’s at its core, “It’s about that time in your life when everything is possible…but you can’t figure out how to make it possible.” exec-producer, Topher Grace told the scribes.
And remakes seem quite a fad for this fall?: Apart from ‘Elmo’ ABC is now prepping a new version of 1984′s sci-fi hit, ‘V’, while NBC is working on a retread of 1990′s ‘Parenthood’ which – despite stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and David Arquette – was so bad, it was canceled after only eight shows.
