Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough tweet to announce split up

Dancing with the Stars’ showmance team Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough are calling it quits. The pair didn’t bother with the old fashion practice of issuing statements via their spokespeople to get out word that their one year romance had ended. Each instead sent out coordinating statements on Twitter Friday:

Hough’s first Twitter message read, “Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon & I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend & girlfriend…” and Elizabeth’s followup message, which concluded the chain, said, “however, we love & care about each other very much & will remain friends & in each other’s lives.”

Well breakups suck, but it sounds like theirs did not end bitterly, so that’s a good thing.
