Ryan O’Neal’s son blames dad for drug use
In another sad chapter of the unfolding drama that was Farrah’s existence, her partner Ryan O’Neal’s eldest son, Griffin, now claims that his dad was almost a dealer, and even got his own kids hooked on dope.
In an interview with Larry King, Griffin, now 45, says Ryan gave both him and Tatum drugs when they were only eleven. ‘I have had a lifetime of hellacious nights, wondering what I did to my life. It destroyed me!” he admits. “I was 11-years old when he first gave me cocaine. We were going to see a long movie called Barry Lyndon [made by Stanley Kubrick in 1976, it runs over 3-hours and stars Ryan as 'Barry.'] and Dad said, ‘Maybe this will help you’…I was 11?? I could never do that to my child.’
Ryan’s son from his first marriage to Joanna Moore [which ended in divorce in 1967,] Griffin has been estranged from his father for several years, and was even banned from Farrah’s funeral last month. But he doubts that his father was as moved by her loss as he seemed, “All those crocodile tears! My dad’s only goal was to make sure he was in the will,’ Griffin said. “I consider him a vulture presiding over a carcass.”
And the bile doesn’t stop there — Griffin also blames his dad for the drug problems that have wrecked his life and Tatum’s, and their half-brother, Redmond [who's in jail on drug charges]. “Redmond hung out with Ryan a lot, because Ryan allowed drug use in the house,” Griff explains. “When they were arrested, my dad had more dope on him than Redmond did!”
And Griffin’s rare meetings with his father have been less than blissful — In 2007, police arrested Ryan at his Malibu home after a violent dispute between him and Griffin. Ryan was charged with ‘suspicion of assault using a deadly weapon’ – but the case was thrown out of court due to lack of hard proof.
Ryan’s attorney, however, was keen to explain that Griffin’s view of Ryan’s shared life with Farrah is hazy at best; ‘Griffin has not had a relationship with Farrah or Ryan for many years.” Arnold Robinson told the UK’s Daily Mail. “There is therefore no possible way he could have any knowledge of what was going on in their lives”
