Katy Perry ripped by jealous ‘Girl’ singer
When singer / songwriter Jill Sobule released her single, “I Kissed a Girl’ in 1995, the song was successful and Jill was quite pleased. But since Katy Perry released her own song with the exact same title to international acclaim, Jill is not smiling too much any more.
“As a musician I have always refrained from criticizing another artist. It did bug me a bit, however, when she said she came up with the idea for the title ‘in a dream,’” Jill told reporters on Sunday. “In fact, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the same guy that signed me in ’95,” she explains. “I don’t want to sound bitter or petty, because that’s not me. But there were a few jealous and pissed off moments.”
Katy’s version debuted on June 10 last year, and the sales figures were almost insane.
“When her version came out I started getting inquiries about what I thought,” Jill. tells PopCrunch. “Some folks wondered why she took my title and made it into this ‘Girls Gone Wild,’ thing. Others, including my mom, were excited because they thought I’d make some money. Unfortunately you can’t copyright a title…bummer.”
So is Jill really not the tiniest bit soured by Katy’s success? See if you can guess as she addresses her friend, “So here goes, for the first time in any interview,” says Jill, taking a deep breath. “F**k you, Katy Perry!; You stupid, maybe ‘not-good-for-the-gays’, title thieving, haven’t heard much else, so not sure if you’re talented, f****ng little slut!”
Hmmm…that might just be too close to call.
